Irene S. Levine, PhD is an award-winning journalist, author, and blogger who writes about travel, health and lifestyles for some of the nation’s leading print and online publications.

She is a regular contributor to the Chicago Tribune Sunday Travel section (including The Fork in the Road, a special page on culinary travel) and writes for numerous other high-circulation dailies including the Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times.

She also writes for NextAvenue.org, a public broadcasting website aimed at inspiring America’s booming 50+ generation to live the most meaningful and vibrant life possible. Many of the travel articles she writes for the site are syndicated on Forbes, Wall Street Journal MoneyWatch, and Grandparents.com.

Irene and her photographer husband produce their own website, MoreTimeToTravel.com geared to the over-50 luxury market. It offers advice, information and inspiration for travelers over the age of 50, a time of life when it’s common for careers, interests and caregiving responsibilities (both for children and aging parents) to change in intensity or even diminish. Suddenly, there’s more time to travel, along with the wanderlust for exploring new places, savoring new tastes, and experiencing different cultures.

For the past six years, she has produced a popular website for women, The Friendship Blog, focused on advice and relationship issues that has received more than 20,000 comments on more than 1800 posts. On that site, she often writes about girlfriend getaways. The site receives between 10,000-12,000 hits per day.

She is an active member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and the American Society of Journalists & Authors (ASJA). Also a member of the North American Travel Journalists Association, she received Gold, Bronze and Silver awards 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2014, she received the first-place award from the Eastern Chapter of SATW for the best online consumer travel story. In the 2015, she was named a Lowell Thomas Award winner. She is a contributing editor for Food Wine Travel magazine.
