A diverse career, including time as a psychologist and commercial cook, eventually led to restaurant judging. Don't ask! For a few years I wrote a weekly column on food and wine for my local newspaper. Late 2013 I launched Broads Abroad Travel Network - an online hospitality exchange network for women. This venture has propelled me into the world of words, especially about travel. My memoir 'A Broad Abroad - One Woman's Journey' is due to be launched in May 2015. I will attend the Bay Area Book Festival in Berkeley in June to promote it. Come along and have a chat. I love meeting the locals! My second book 'Broads Abroad: Worldly Wise’ is devoted to the dilemmas, joys and practicalities women face when exploring the world in their ‘more senior’ years. Follow their journeys through an engaging selection of photographs taken by award-winning photographer Peter Derrett OAM. I believe travel is more about the experiences and less about ticking the boxes. These quirky travel tales are more about how a journey feels, not how it looks in a photo album! Just when I thought I had a spare moment, I've been invited to write a chapter in an academic book called 'Women and Travel.' I hear it will be the 'go to' book for the industry. Lastly, I'm about to write a collection of travel books with Peter Derrett OAM aimed at the 50+ independent female traveller. As mature women I believe we seek different travel experiences. 'Broads Abroad - Luang Prabang' will be the first cab off the rank, closely followed by 'Broads Abroad - Bangkok'. Broads Abroad gives a voice to this burgeoning travel demographic. I recently set up my own boutique publishing house called Broads Abroad Publishing; it will house all these travel books. Watch this space! And....when I have a spare moment I help co-host a radio show with IFWTWA members Peter Watson and Graeme Kemlo.
